This is the first installment in a series to highlight Canadian Business Grants that can help move your business forward. Each month, we will highlight 5 grants that are available. Check back monthly to see if funding is available!

 

#1 – Canada Job Grant

Our first grant is well known. The Canada Job Grant subsidizes up to 2/3 of the cost of training new or existing employees. All industries are eligible. Upgrade your employee skills to stay dynamic and relevant in your industry.

The maximum you may receive is $10,000 per grant and you can apply anytime.

Examples of eligible costs:

  • Tuition and examination fees
  • Textbooks, software and other required materials

You will need to:

  • Contribute 1/3 of the costs
  • Use a third-party trainer

#2 – CanExport Program

Looking to start exporting your goods or expand your export operations? This grant may be for you. The CanExport Grant is for small and medium-sized businesses registered in Canada that are looking to develop new export opportunities for Canadian businesses.

You could get up to $99,999 to reimburse up to 50% of eligible expenses to promote your business in new international markets. Your for-profit business must:

  • Be incorporated or a limited liability partnership
  • Employ between one and 250 full-time employees
  • Have an annual revenue between $200,000 and $50 million

Eligible activities include:

  • Business travel
  • Trade fairs
  • Market research
  • Marketing tools updates

 

Eligible expenses include travel costs, contractor or consultant fees, and legal fees.

#3 – Collaboration Voucher Program (Ontario Only)          

Looking for innovation expertise? Collaboration vouchers subsidize the cost for companies to access Ontario’s universities, colleges, and research hospitals.

Get expert technical help with:

  • Commercializing new products
  • Innovation and productivity for products, service, and processes
  • E-business tools adoption
  • Industry-wide R&D challenges

 

There are three types of vouchers available:

Voucher for Innovation and Productivity (VIP): Helps established companies, in partnership with academia, develop innovative products, processes, and services with a focus on expanding export markets.

Voucher for E-Business (VEB): Connects companies with the expertise and resources at Ontario colleges to help their business scale up the development, adoption, and implementation of online tools and other technologies.

Voucher for Industry Association R&D Challenge (VIA): Connects industry associations or consortia with Ontario’s publicly funded academic research institutions to address sector-wide research and development challenges.

#4 – Investing in Business Growth and Productivity          

This grant is for small to mid-sized businesses that are looking to expand their facilities and increase productivity to participate in global markets. Receive up to $20 million dollars in funding

To qualify, your business must:

  • Be an established small or medium-sized business with at least 15 employees, or a not-for-profit industry association and/or economic development organization
  • Have the potential for international growth

Funding is available in 2 streams:

  • Business growth: repayable contribution for SMEs for up to 25% of eligible costs
  • Increasing productivity: non-repayable contribution for incorporated not-for-profits for up to 100% of eligible costs

#5 – Canadian International Innovation Program

This grant provides up to 50% of your costs associated with collaborating with Brazil, China, India, Israel and South Korea to commercialize your innovation.

To qualify, you must have a project that:

  • Could be a commercial success
  • Is technologically feasible
  • Is for non-military purposes
