Smashing Nines Golf Tournament

Monica Kwok, Louise Frost, Melissa Vinden, Kim Aitken, Katie Cheesmond

On May 23rd, a few of the RLB Women attended the Smashing Nines Golf Tournament, hosted by the talented 5 time ILDC Women’s Long Drive Champion, Fareen Samji. She is better known as Far; fitting since her personal best Long Drive is 334 yards! RLB was honoured to be one of the event sponsors, and Melissa, Kim, Katie, and Louise got to participate in the fun!

Far is more than just an internationally acclaimed athlete – she is an entrepreneur and a community leader. She has recently released her first book, Smashing the Grass Ceiling: A Women’s Guide to Mastering Golf for Business Success. The book talks about Far’s experiences as an entrepreneur and a former pro-golfer, and how using this sport as a tool can help women in business succeed. Far recently established a mentoring program called Smashing Girls; helping girls from the age of 12 to 16 years old build confidence, relationships, and life skills through golf.

Thank you Far for such an amazing event and to Dundas Valley Golf & Curling Club for having us. You are truly an inspiration to women in our community! Check out the news coverage on Smashing Nines on CHCH.

Big Bike – Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada

On June 14th, our team participated in the Heart and Stroke Big Bike again this year in Kitchener! The Big Bike is a fun and amazing fundraising event on a 30-person bicycle. All funds go towards the Heart and Stroke Foundation in its goal to reduce the Canadian rate of death from heart disease and stroke by 25% by the year 2020, and our team raised almost $1,300 towards this great cause.

Shout out to Erika Dix and Rhiannon Hawksby for organizing all this and to the 27 supporting team members (Heather Beaton, Jonathan Biffis, Brooke Billings, Odessa Cherubin, Alex Di Lello, Erik Grosz, Rebecca Hahn, Rebecca Hall, Steve Haller, Richard Huynh, Anisha Jesani, Brittany Koornstra, Monica Kwok, Peter Manera, Mike McGinnis, Jeff Miller, David Moller, Michael Nazarevich, Steven Parker, Jessica Rath, Jennie Riddell, Katherine Salis, Tara Walsh, and Natasha Yates). Check us all out in our green RLB shirts!
