The process to gain access to a corporate clients’ information with CRA, either by phone, or online changed as of May 15th, 2017. To request online access to tax information for a business, your accountant will now ask you to complete the authorization request in Represent a Client. Form RC59 will no longer be used to authorize online access.
Follow these four steps to request an authorization:
- Log into Represent a Client
- Click “Review and update”
- Click “Authorization request” at the bottom of the “Manage clients” tab and follow the instructions
- Print and sign the signature page
The signed form must be uploaded to the CRA website within 10 days; therefore you can no longer upload signed RC59 forms. If you want to authorize a bookkeeper, treasurer, etc., this is the new process you have to follow!
