RLB has an ever-growing municipal practice that prides itself on being responsive to client needs and providing exceptional client service. As a result, we now have three audit teams specifically dedicated to our municipal clients, and we seek to ensure continuity of staff and sufficient resources to get the job done on time and on budget.
Wherever possible (while maintaining our independence) we have helped our clients with the implementation of the new financial reporting standards, including the process of including tangible capital assets in their financial records. What’s more, in spite of this very difficult transition and the delays and frustration experienced by many municipalities in Ontario, we have ensured that all of our municipal clients’ financial statements and Financial Information Returns were submitted to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing well in advance of their deadline, to ensure that provincial funding was not delayed.

Do you need help with budgeting?
Under the new financial reporting framework and the requirements of the Ontario Municipal Act, there are changes to the way municipalities are required to present their annual budgets.
We have developed a practical reconciliation template which we have provided to all of our municipal clients that allows them to continue to prepare their budget based on their annual cash flow requirements, and then to simply adjust that cash-flow budget to a budget that is compliant with the Public Sector Accounting Board handbook.

Are your benefits + policies compliant?

Our tax department staff can help you, by determining whether your calculations and policies are compliant with the Income Tax Act, Canada Revenue Agency’s policies and recent case law.
