Have you ever wondered what a donation to United Way looks like?

Kyler

It looks like Kyler.

“A year ago, I was pregnant, lost and had nowhere to go.  Then I came to Michael House, where I was surrounded by a supportive community so I could keep my baby, Sage.  We have weekly meetings to help meet my goals in things like budgeting, finishing school and parenting.  Now I’m on my way to living independently and raising my little girl in a healthy family.

A donation to United Way looks like all of us.

Our community has many individuals who need our support.  Whether it be a friendly face, a healthy meal, or assistance to make life just a little bit easier, a donation to United Way enables programs across our community do all of this and more.

For 77 years, United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin has worked to monitor and meet the pressing social needs of our community.

The local United Way began in 1940 as the Guelph Community Chest for War & Welfare Services, at a time when Canada was facing the realities of WWII. It was established to conduct a single, annual campaign for voluntary sector agencies that were conducting individual campaigns.  The first fundraising goal was set for $70,000.  12 community agencies were supported: Red Cross, YMCA, YWCA, Knights of Columbus, Salvation Army, Children’s Aid, Canadian Legion, VON, House of Providence, IODE, Navy League and the CNIB.

Today, United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin works on behalf of over 54 local agencies, to improve lives and build community. Through a network of over 85 local community programs, United Way ensures thousands of people each day have a helping hand and keeps our community safe and thriving.  Our funded programs provide basic needs to those struggling financially, keep our community active and engaged and support kids as they grow and develop.  Donors have contributed over $52.5 million to United Way over the past 20 years.

What’s Raised Local, Stays Local.

Our strategy is 100% local, ensuring that a donation impacts people right here in Guelph, Wellington County and Dufferin county – friends, neighbours, co-workers, family.  Our funded programs are carefully reviewed and selected by trained volunteers and staff, and can best respond to community needs.

Giving to United Way is a simple and very effective way to do your individual part for your local community.  With one donation, you support a network of programs that help thousands of people in our community on their journey to a better quality of life.  This year, our goal is to raise $3.5 million to help change lives.  We hope you consider joining us.
