My character voices are quite impressive and make for exciting bedtime stories for my three children. I like to sing enthusiastically, although off-key, to a range of music from metal to show tunes. I know a bunch of useless trivia on sports and many other topics. I’m also surprisingly good at cooking and creative meal creations.
I am great at drawing pictures to explain tax plans (though the art skills may leave a lot to be desired). I’m good at math (this might not be so surprising), and reading the Income Tax Act jargon and converting this to English.
What are you most passionate about?
Spending time with my family is very important to me. I enjoy camping, hiking, being outdoors, and going on adventures. I love good food from locally-sourced to exotic and different.
I love problem solving and helping my colleagues learn more, to be better, and grow beyond themselves. I enjoy finding ways to take our clients’ goals and dreams of their business and family and making them a reality.
What’s important inside your community? Are you part of any organizations?
It’s important to give back with whatever you have, whether it is your time, money, skills and abilities, to those who are less fortunate. Aiding people with reading and literacy is important to me, as well as buying local foods and creating strong connections around my community. I am part of the New Life Christian Reformed Church of Guelph. I assist them with community outreach and provide community support.
What do you feel have been the most important successes in your life?
The most important successes in my life are obtaining a BBA (WLU)/BMath (UW) double degree and my CA, CPA & TEP designations. I’ve been at RLB for 11 years and I’m proud to be the Tax Partner at the firm.
I have been trying to convince my children that accounting is an exciting and dangerous profession – they now believe me! I was also surprisingly funny enough to convince my wife to marry me and we have been together for over 11 years.
If you could be a superhero or have a superpower, what would it be?
I would want to be Superman – faster than a speeding bullet (at reading the Tax Act), more powerful than a locomotive (at helping clients achieve goals), able to leap tall buildings (errrr, maybe small lego structures built by my kids) in a single bound.
What are your favourite hobbies, sports team, and/or food?
My favourite sports team is the Philadelphia Eagles. Although I’m unsure if this is a hobby or a favourite food, but nothing beats a good BBQ and craft beer on a nice summer day!
