A Study of Canadian Millennials and their Social Values

A study that was done on Millennials in Canada (those born between the year 1980 and 1995) was released a few days ago and presented the social values of this generation. This is interesting seeing as it is the first time the report presents this type of information and it helps make sense of the stereotypes applied to today’s young adults.

Some important takeaways from the survey are as follows:

  • Millennials value work-life balance; they want a good balance between work and their personal life, followed by financial security, wealth, and flexibility on the job
  • When asked if they could go through post-secondary all over again, what they would do, just under half would have gone through with it again. But a little more than half said they would have chosen a different path, either pursuing a different type of education or doing something else instead of getting a degree
  • 1 in 4 Millennials are actively engaged in a cause or issue, mostly involving social justice, the environment, politics or health care. People of this generation are often involved through online channels, but a good portion seek to participate in person at events or group meetings, too

The survey is based on online interviews conducted amongst 2,072 Canadians aged 21-36 across Canada.
