At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph, we thrive on Starting Something BIG. Whether it’s matching a local, at-risk youth with a Big Brother or Big Sister, mentoring a group of children in our Big Bunch program, conducting a training session for new volunteers and families, or organizing one of many fundraising events – there are so many ways that we immerse ourselves in this community to make a difference.
Active in Guelph for 50 years, we are the city’s largest youth mentoring charity, serving more than 650 local children in Guelph, Puslinch, Morriston, Rockwood, and Aberfoyle. Our programs are offered one-on-one and in groups within the community, and in 42 local schools, where our In-School Mentoring and School-Based Group programs help children between the ages of 5-16 reach their full potential. We are supported by more than 350 volunteers who are the lifeblood of our small, but far-reaching organization.
“Participating in Go Girls was a touching and fun-filled experience,” says Big Sister, Sarah. “To revisit adolescence and mentor young girls going through a vulnerable phase of life, is rewarding and enlightening.”
At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph, it is our collective mission to promote the healthy development of the children and youth of our community. We are committed to the recruitment of volunteers who are dedicated to upholding the values and principles of the organization and to those whom we serve.
We organize a number of major fundraising events throughout the year, most notably our Have a Heart for Kids’ Sake Gala, Bowl for Kids’ Sake, Golf FORE Kids’ Sake, The Big Little Run and the BIG Downtown Food Truck Picnic. These events give local businesses and people of all ages and backgrounds an opportunity to become involved with our organization, support our mission to mentor and learn about how we are making a difference.
Upcoming Event: Bowl for Kids’ Sake – April 28-29
Our next major fundraiser is Bowl for Kids’ Sake, our longest-running event (43 years!), taking place on April 28-29 at Woodlawn Bowl in Guelph. Participants form teams of six and collect pledges from family, friends, co-workers and colleagues in support of their efforts. All participants bowl for two hours during the event weekend and enjoy free pizza, soft drinks, prizes, and games. New for 2017, we’re excited to offer some of our top bowlers and fundraisers the opportunity to win one of our coveted Turkey Trophies. This event involves more than 600 businesses and individuals who are all committed to giving back to their community and supporting local youth.

We are so appreciative and thankful for the ongoing support our charity receives from this community. RLB LLP is one of the many local businesses whom we are so proud to call a partner and a friend.
