Elizabeth Tyler

What are you surprisingly good at?

Paint by Numbers, Euchre, and re-watching movies because I have forgotten the plot.

What are you most passionate about?

I had an insightful teacher in grade 10 who encouraged me to pursue accounting as a profession and I have been passionate about it since then. Through opportunities given to me by friends and family, I was exposed to different small businesses and the challenges they face. Therefore what I most enjoy is talking to clients and seeing them succeed. I love working to understand their unique business, and being able to help them not only by providing good client service, but also being able to guide them through tricky situations, or conversations with CRA. I truly enjoy talking to my clients.

What’s important inside your community? Are you part of any organizations?

I am very involved in my community, and always looking for new opportunities to serve local and international organizations. I volunteer with SVET, which raises money for orphanages and children with disabilities overseas. I am currently very active and engaged in the initiatives run by my church (Grace Community Church), including Saturday Night Suppers and Just Right. Saturday Night Suppers are supported once a month by Grace Community Church in partnership with Royal City Mission, which provides 600 meals to those less fortunate in our community. The Just Right initiative is focused on meeting the various needs of our community; engaging volunteers, creating awareness of our community needs and allocating financial resources where they are needed most. My husband and I are grateful we get to work at a company and attend a church that both focus on giving back to the communities they are a part of.

What do you feel has been the most important successes in your life?

Becoming a CPA. I’m incredibly happy to be able to wake up and do what I do every single day, I am so grateful for a job that makes me excited to go to work every morning.

If you could be a superhero or have a superpower, what would it be?

I would be the Flash. I want to be super-fast, mostly because it would keep me warm (I’m always so cold!)

What are your favourite hobbies, sports team, and/or food?

My favourite hobby is stamp collecting. Yes, I am secretly a senior citizen at heart, but I prefer the term philatelist, which means one who studies and collects stamps. I enjoy the history of it and seeing the progression of stamps for each nation over time. I’m also a big movie fanatic. I will watch anything no matter the genre, regardless of how bad the Rotten Tomato ratings are. My favourite movies are Gladiator, A Knight’s Tale, and Wonder Woman.
