Derek is a Principal here at RLB. Derek brings with him in-depth knowledge and experience with owner-managed businesses, tax advisory and a specialty in rental and real estate accounting and advisory services.  

Derek has been a part of the Guelph business landscape since 2002. After attending both Wilfrid Laurier and McMaster University, Derek graduated with honours and began building his practice. In his time as a CPA, CA, Derek has been a partner at two firms, most recently Calibre LLP Chartered Professional Accountants. The move to a larger firm felt like the right timing and the positive corporate culture and emphasis on “People Count” that RLB has cultivated felt very attractive to him.

In his career, Derek has had experience in a variety of industries and worked in many different-sized businesses. He now specializes in helping owner-managed businesses find success, with a key interest in tax and the rental and real estate sectors.

Outside of client work, Derek is enjoys the work-life integration RLB offers. Derek and his spouse Lindsay stay busy running an alpaca farm with 21 alpacas. With two teenage daughters that are both active in rugby and musical theatre, a farm, and Lindsay’s small animal veterinary practice, making time for his family is a priority for Derek.
