Together We Care

Fundraising has begun to give Guelph General Hospital a powerful new MRI scanner!
Our generous community came together 14 years ago to fund Guelph General’s first MRI scanner. Today, at Guelph General, up to 15,000 MRI scans are completed annually.
GGH is one of Ontario’s most efficiently run MRI scanners. Month-over- month, GGH completes a high number of patient scans per hour in operation compared to other MRI scanners in the province.
New MRI Scanner Facts:
13,000 to 17,000 MRI scans annually are estimated for Guelph General Hospital’s new MRI scanner.
A new MRI scanner will be up to 2x faster! A scan that now takes 30 minutes could be completed in 15 to 20 minutes.
Better image quality. Doctors will be able to see smaller details with greater clarity, leading to earlier and more accurate diagnosis.
The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital will be designating many of their fundraising initiatives towards the MRI scanner, currently these include:
•    Spring Direct Response program, including mail and email appeals, or make a donation online: https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/DonationPage.aspx?eventid=361987
•    Tour de Guelph 2021, visit www.tourdeguelph.ca to register.
•    The 50/50 Hospital Lottery, visit www.ggh5050.ca to play.
•    Next week a digital micro-giving campaign on GuelphToday.com and Facebook encouraging $15 donations, encouraging everyone in our community to contribute what they can.
An MRI scanner will do 150,000 scans over its 10-year lifespan. The operational costs of running it are paid by the Ontario government, including staffing and supplies. However, donations pay for the upfront equipment costs. The new scanner will cost $2.25 million to purchase and install, this means a $15 donation will support the equipment cost for one patient scan over the lifespan of the new MRI scanner!
Donations towards the MRI scanner will also be counted towards the Hospital’s most urgent Together, We Care campaign, helping to reach our $34-million fundraising goal! To learn more, visit www.TogetherWeCare.ca
