With a new year comes new legislative updates!

While it may be the most wonderful time of the year for some people, for many the holidays can be associated with stress, chaos and overwhelm.

As the end of the year and the holidays approach many employers are looking for ways to mark the occasion and thank their employees for another successful year. Gift cards are always a great choice; they're devoid of possible allergens, they offer a world of possibilities, and they're tax-exempt.

On October 1st, 2022 the minimum wage will increase to $15.50 per hour.  The Ontario government has stated the reason for the increase is tied to the Ontario Consumer Price Index.

"Gen Z" is the youngest generation you will see currently beginning their careers. The oldest members of the generation are currently in their mid-20s and were born in the mid-1990s through the late 2000s. The future of work is here, with different expectations and mindsets on many topics and the notion of the work itself. It is imperative that employers understand the new generation as they enter the workforce and reshape the traditional workplace norms.

One month after the last minimum wage increase the province has announced that they would like to increase it again.  On October 1st the minimum wage increased to $14.35 per hour.  The proposed changes would see this increased to $15.00 per hour on January 1, 2022.  The Ontario government has stated the reason for the increase is to keep up with the cost of living that has increased considerably during the pandemic.
